What does the test involve?

Our DNA Ancestry test is one of the most sophisticated ancestry DNA tests available, and provides you with an easy to read colourful ancestry map so you can trace your GeoGenetic heritage and ancestral roots throughout the world. Once our lab receives your DNA samples, they are then compared to hundreds of global populations and 14 anthropological regions around the world. Next, they will measure whether your DNA profile matches any one of these regions to determine where your ancestors came from.

Once this is determined, your ancestral results are then plotted on a high-resolution photographic map from a by-population view as well as from a regional analysis. The results of the DNA Ancestry test are one of the easiest test results to understand, as all the information you need is clearly plotted for you on a large map.

What if I already have a DNA profile?

If you already have a DNA profile or have previously purchased our Identification Profiling test, you can use it to generate a DNA ancestry map at a lower cost. To order a DNA Ancestry test with an existing DNA profile, choose the most appropriate option from the list above.

How do I take the test?

The DNA test is easy to use and will involve a mouth swab being taken from each subject being tested. You will receive two cotton swabs per person in separate envelopes. One swab is used to take a saliva cell sample from the inside left cheek, and the other swab is used to take a saliva cell sample from the inside right cheek. You should ensure that the cotton swab is completely dry before you place it in the envelope, and that you have clearly labelled each subjectís envelopes for processing. Itís important that you do not consume any coffee, alcohol or tobacco-related products at least four hours before the test. Detailed instructions for how to take each test will be included in your test kit.

What ancestry DNA tests are available?

There are four types of ancestry DNA tests available from TestDiagnostics and the test you order will depend on the size of the ancestry map you would like to receive and whether you already have an existing DNA profile.

You can choose to order a standard (43cm x 27cm) DNA ancestry map without an existing profile, or a standard DNA ancestry map with an existing profile.

Alternatively, you can choose to order an extra-large (69cm x 43cm) DNA ancestry map without an existing profile, or an extra-large DNA ancestry map with an existing profile.

How will I get my results?

Your results are provided by our AABB accredited laboratory in the form of a large colour-coded map detailing your ancestral roots, as well as an ancestry report. Your personalised ancestry map will be created based on your DNA ancestry analysis and is made up of three key components Ė population matches, strength indicators and native region matches. It will be posted securely to your address within two weeks of our lab receiving your DNA sample.

Your ancestry report will be available to download from our secure area just two weeks after our laboratory receives your completed sample. You need to ensure that you have fully completed all forms and required information included in your test pack so that the laboratory can make the most accurate analysis, in the fastest time possible.
